Rob Allen was crowned overall winner after the fifth and final race of the Hope Cross-Country Race Series.

The Leisure Lakes rider delivered consistent performances across four races to finish on 157 points, with Keith Bailey (Chorlton Velo) nine points adrift in second.

Carl Draper (Lex Luther MBC) won the fifth round’s Racer category, taking the lead on lap two and steadily building his race winning margin.

Tom Albutt (Joyriders MTB Holidays) worked hard to get the first lap prime but could not hold Draper’s wheel and finished a second. David Watt (VC MELYD), in his first finish in four attempts in this series, claimed third.

Susannah Goddard held off Amy Baron-Hall (Cooksons Cycles) to win the Racing Diva’s category, with Joanna Holden topping the series standings.

Mike Aitchison (Big Bear Bikes) registered his third successive victory to claim the Weekend Warrior series.

And Nick Budworth (Woollybacks) won the Have-A-Go Heroes race, while Caroline Ditum (Ginger Poo Goddard) was victorious in the Have-A-Go Heroines showdown.

Tom Baker’s third place finish in the Lads category was enough to steal the series, while Sam Pickering was winner on the day and second overall.

The series will return in 2011 with four races and a fifth ‘something different’ event, which is yet to be revealed – although organisers have promised it won’t be a 24 hour race in the quarry.
