Ever fancied having a crack at a real downhill course but been put off by sharing trails with full-faced and armoured warriors on gert big bikes going half as fast again as you? Then this weekend is a golden opportunity…
The manager of the DH courses at Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders, Neil Stoddart, points out that this weekend sees the Scottish Downhill Championships at Fort William. So if all the fast boys are at Fort Bill, they’re not at Innerleithen, leaving a suitably quiet time for anyone who’s been thinking about having a go but been possibly a little put off.
Neil says, “We’re keen to get more people try out the Downhill trails at Innerleithen as they have a lot of fun to offer. You can learn more skills and push yourself that little bit harder. There’s usually loads of bikers who come to watch at the weekend and most of them like the idea of having a go – so here’s the ideal time.”
He’s keen to point out that you don’t need a massive downhill rig – one of those just means you go faster, but you can ride the trails on pretty much any bike. Go as fast (or slow) as you like… And for full DH effect you don’t even have to ride to the top, with transport provided. All you need to do is book in advance and get a day permit. And if any XC boys go along for a first-time DH experience, let us know how you get on…
