Get set… Go!

The Premier MTB Series, the latest incarnation of the NPS XC series, gets started this weekend at the legendary Newnham Park, Plymouth. And the organisers are taking advantage of the Easter weekend to pack as much racing in as possible, with conventional XC, Short Track and the Trek 6-4-2 all-you-can-eat Enduro.

Martyn Salt of organisers Inevent has dropped us an update. The series is sponsored by Trek and it’s definitely making the most of its investment. A fleet of 80 demo bikes from the Trek, Klein and Gary Fisher ranges will be on site for test rides, and Gary Fisher and Keith Bontrager are both attending and racing on Saturday and Sunday.

It sounds like the new format is proving popular, with even top XC racers like Barrie Clarke and Nick Craig racing on both days. Newnham’s a great venue, and we’re told that the 5.5 mile XC course has loads of new sections. There’s an 8.75 mile loop for the 6-4-2 and the Short Track course is entirely visible from the beer tent for added spectator appeal. The Short Track is on Sunday evening, and with the eight-rider heats being drawn at random you could be lining up alongside one of the aforementioned pro riders…

As if all that isn’t enough, the weekend will also feature free Under-12 races, Go-Ride coaching, bar, refreshments, showers, bike wash and trade stands. Pre-entries are closed but entry on the day is available – on-site camping is available from Friday until Tuesday morning at a fiver a pitch.

More details from the Premier Series website.
