Feeling a bit out of shape? Or in the wrong sort of shape? Could be just the excuse you’re looking for to head to Cycle 2003 (Business Design Centre, Islington, 25-28 September). Kicking off on the preview evening of 25 September is Cycle into Health, a themed selection of interactive features and taster sessions aimed at getting you towards some semblance of fitness. Obviously it may take more than a single evening, but you’ll probably end up pointing in the right direction…
First up is Bodylab, the one-stop treatment centre for active people. They’ll be running twenty minute taster sessions in sports massage, osteopathy, reflexology and sports injury therapy for seven quid a pop. And their experts will be on hand to furnish advice and information.
If you want to work up a sweat, try a free Spinning session, run by Star Trac. Star Trac will also be organising an attempt on the World Spinning Record during the show. Contact Sarah Coleman to book a Spinning ride.
One of the best ways to enhance your performance is with a personalised training programme. Training company Trainsmart will be at the show carrying out VO2 Max assessments so you can find out just how fit (or not) you are. There’ll also be a VO2 Max seminar during the evening. Book an assessment at www.trainsmart.uk.com.
Of course, there’s another good way to boost riding fitness, and that’s to ride. In particular, it’s tough to beat cranking out the miles on a road bike. And by a happy coincidence, Cycle 2003 and Specialized are giving away a shiny new 2004 road bike to one lucky Bikemagic member. Plus a load of tickets to the show. Visit the competition page, answer the question, cross your fingers and wait…
