Facing 115 miles of tough racing in the Welsh mountains, 75
riders rode out of Port Talbot .
In conditions that even legendary northern Hardman Wayne Randle described as horrendous
the riders knew this was going to be tough day .
ProVision team rivet rider Mark Lovatt duly launched the first attack of the and
battled the torrential rain onhis own for about 10 miles until joined by Milk Ras
rival Julian Winn.
The duo duly stayed away for 80 miles until caught by a small group containing Matt
Stephens and Anthony Malacyk . Meanwhile Lovatts team mates current national champion
John Tanner and Wayne Randle were stuck in the bunch . Randle was clearly off form
and struggled up every climb and to quote " am breathing through me arsehole
up every climb ".
Tanner meanwhile ; attacked the bunch with Huw Pritchard for company and set about
catching the break ; with the 5 finishing circuits to go and the break at 20 seconds
Tanner not wanting to take Pritchard up to the break attacked
Pritchard and joined the break with 2 laps to go .
Despite countless attack from Stephens and Tanner the group faced a 6 man sprint
which Malacyk won easily from Winn 2nd , Lovatt 3rd , Tanner 4th .
To his credit Randle grovelled in to finish in 15th place .
