Fat Face urban downhill comes to Scarborough

Scarborough will be the place to be on Saturday 4 October, as the second Fat Face urban downhill race will take place in the famous seaside town. Last year’s inaugural event took place in Edinburgh, with 6,000 spectators watching 300 riders take on a course that mixed existing street features with purpose-built obstacles and ramps.

The 2008 edition looks like upping the ante considerably. For a start, it’ll be a UCI Category 2 event, and will thus offer UK racers their last chance to pick up DH ranking points before next year’s World Cup series kicks off. Of more interest to spectators will be the four-times-bigger finish arena and trade area, the longer and more challenging course and, just possibly, the drink samples flowing from the Jagermeister truck…

Race organiser Chris Roberts is remaining tight-lipped about the finer details of the course until race day, but it’ll run from the medieval castle that stands on the rocky headland above Scarborough, making its way down steps and narrow alleyways into town. Plenty of big names are expected to appear, including a full set of Athertons, Brendan Fairclough, Scott Beaumont, Marc Beaumont, Neil Donoghue, Will Longden and World Masters Champions Lee Bertram and Lynda Davis.

Practice and seeding runs will be happening all day, with the night-time finals running from 7pm. More details at www.nakedracing.com.
