The organisers of the European Single Speed Championships, in Todtnau, Germany, are issuing an urgent call for support from their one-geared brethren. With the event less than three weeks away (24-25th of August), the amount of paid up entries are so low that it may have to be cancelled.
Despite healthy traffic levels to their multi-lingual website, and plenty of forum banter across the UK and Germany, the support for this grassroots event hasn’t been forthcoming. As a result, the chances of months of work and a substantial private investment going down the drain are becoming high.
Event organiser, Michael Wilkens, explained the situation; “We were aware that we are dealing with a rather special kind of cyclist here – which is part of the reason why we came up with the idea in the first place – but after the amount of interest and coverage we had in the English, German and European MTB press we are very surprised that we might be forced to pull the plug. For once it is not the industry who is making organising an event difficult, it is the people we are doing it for!”
So, all you SS enthusiasts, you’ve got a few days to log onto SinglespeedRacer.com and send your entry off, or the plug will have to be pulled. It’s in your hands.
