The European DH Championships will be held this weekend at Krahjska Gora, Slovenia, with a start list packed with big names. The organisers tell us that 367 riders from 27 countries are signed up, with the British contingent including World Cup leader Steve Peat, World Champion Gee Atherton, Brendan Fairclough, Mark Beaumont, Josh Bryceland and Tracy Moseley.
Tracy will of course be up against the French riders Sabrina Jonnier, Emmeline Ragot, Floriane Pugin and Myriam Nicole. As well as the European nations, there’ll be various Australian and New Zealand riders taking part, although they won’t be eligible for titles.
Riders you may not have heard of are Nejc Rutar, Jan Cestnik, Luka Novak and Sasa Merljak, who (with some others) will be representing the host nation. Despite regularly hosting a World Cup at Maribor, Slovenian riders haven’t really made an impact as yet, but with local knowledge (and support) they could pull something out of the bag.
The event kicks off on Friday 12 June with the Masters seeding runs, opening ceremonies and party. Saturday 13 June will see the Masters finals and Elite and Junior seeding runs, with the Elite and Junior finals on Sunday. All you need to know is at www.dhvitranc.eu/.
