We’ve just recieved notification from Forest Enterprise’s mountain bike meister, Dafydd Davis, that all Forest Commission land and mountain bike trails are officially shut as of now to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease.
The viral infection can be carried physically or blown for considerable distances so they’re taking no chances with mountain bikers or anyone else unwittingly carrying the disease into farming areas on their land. We’ve also recieved a “closed” notification for the Combe Sydenham DH / Dual track to protect the large deer herds on the land.
There are new cases being found every hour, and the only way to stop it spreading is to stop people carrying it from one place to another.
Be smart and don’t risk spreading the disease. Stay away from any farmland or woods where you know there are deer etc. The sooner it’s contained the sooner we can go back to access all areas, and if we behave responsibly now, farmers might even thank us for it later.
