Dirtgirls

Alpine holiday company Flow MTB premiered its Dirtgirls women’s weeks last year, and they were clearly successful – it’ll be running them this summer too.

“Dirtgirls is ideal for women keen to progress with their biking but feeling left behind in the male-dominated world of mountain biking. It’s a fantastic way for women to both meet other female mountain bikers and brush up
on or learn new skills,” says Flow MTB’s Sara Burdon. In the “learning new skills” department, Flow has recruited 2005 Dragon Downhill series winner Emily Horridge to pass on riding tips. She’ll be teaching general trail skills, jumping and DH technique to riders of all abilities, showing how downhill skills can be applied in all types of riding.

The two weeks will each have a different focus. The first (14-21 July) will be aimed at newer riders who may be nervous on technical trails or know that they need to perfect a few skills to take their riding to the next level. The second (18-25 August) will be that next level – it’s aimed at riders confident on technical ground, including rocks, roots and steep sections. Skils sessions will be shorter and focussed on particular sections of trail.

Both weeks will feature a rest day, with a bunch of non-riding options from visiting a local spa to trying wakeboarding. There’ll also be the opportunity to try out and rate the latest women-specific gear thanks to SheCycles.com, while online girls’ clothing store Minx-Girl.com will provide exclusive Minx t-shirts and prize jerseys for achievements during the week. There’ll be a Minx store in the Flow chalet, too. On the subject of the chalet, the Dirtgirls weeks will be based in the Chalet la Musardiere in Morzine, with breakfast, afternoon tea and a three course dinner with wine or beer. A packed lunch is also provided. Each week, including accommodation, food, six day lift pass, guiding, tuition and airport transfers, will cost €725 (£486) per person.
