Calendar looking a bit empty? Feeling the need to adorn your front end with a random numbers? Here are a few race dates to fill your Filofax:
World OrienBEERing Championships – 31st August to 2nd September
If your bike’s kickstand is the local bar and your CamelBak is permanently frothing with Stella, then you’ll want to take part in the World OrienBEERing Championships, due to take place in Dorset on the August Bank Holiday. Last year, over 50 ale aficionados staggered down to Wareham to seek out the hidden ‘checkpints’ and consume the amber nectar stored within.
Maps will be handed out in the morning, and then the teams will head out into the Purbecks in search of liquid gold. There’ll be cheap swill at the bottom of hills and quality bevvy on singletrack and climbs. The infamous ‘Checkpint Charlie’ will, once again, be secreted somewhere on the course, stocked to the gills with tipple. The rules are flexible, to say the least, and Dastardly foul play will win you points throughout the day.
Camping is 10 squid for the weekend, and there’s a bar and swimming pool on site. To book, call John McHarry on 01202 386910 or 07773 506593.

Yet another Welsh enduro event for the summer season, the Beast of the Brecons is sure to live up to its name. The 100km route will encompass the sleeping giants of Fan Ghyrich, Sarn Helen and Talybont, although there is a 60km option for the mortals among us.
Entry fees are £25 for the 100km event and £20 for the 60km. The price includes Saturday night camping, pasta party and a competitors T-shirt. For further details, call Bi-Ped Cycles, on 01874 622296, or download an entry form via the mountainbikewales.com website.
