The organisers of the Cycle Show (ExCel, London, October 14-16) tell us that nearly 90% of the stand space has now been sold. And it’s a considerably bigger venue than the Islington Business Design Centre of previous years, so that’s quite a lot of space. It’s made up of a combination of new exhibitors (BMC, Colnago, Cotic, Titus) and other exhibitors taking bigger stands – look for really quite enormous stands from the likes of Scott, Specialized and Trek.
One particularly big area for the show is cycle tourism. Apparently the European cycle tourism market is expected to rise to £14bn per year within the next 20 years (although we suppose that could just be from air fares going up…) and there are plenty of companies trying to get a slice of that. There’ll be holiday operators at Cycle who can take you to Italy, Greece, the Mekong Delta, Kathmandu and pretty much anywhere else in the world too.
You can also look forward to a bunch of other stuff including a cycling cinema (presumably that’s a cinema showing cycling films, rather than a mobile one driven by the audience pedalling), criterium racing, a stationary biathlon (treadmill run/exercise bike/treadmill run), an international trials competition (again, that’ll be with overseas competitors, not one with Channel-hopping sections), bike test tracks and so on.
Tickets are £12 on the day or £10 in advance from www.cycleshow.co.uk or 0870 126 1786. Kids get in for a mere pound…
