The countdown is on ahead of the 12th Bucks Off-Road Sportive, which takes place this Sunday (May 15).
The ride dates back to 1999, when the original 40km event started at the near-by Denham Country Park. It’s now evolved to become, at 132km, one of the longest one-lap off-road sportives.
But if you’re not quite up to that distance in the Chiltern Hills, shorter rides of 80 and 100km are available. All routes are fully marked, with each competitor supplied with a back-up map. GPX routes also available for download.
Mountain bikes are the weapon of choice for most riders – but hybrids and cyclo-cross bikes have been spotted. On-trail conditions are currently perfect, while, for the relaxed rider, the route is lined with country pubs. Feed stations will be stocked by Eat Nautral.
Facilities at the event HQ, the Martin Baker Sports and Social Club, include showers, toilets, hard standing car park, food and a licensed bar.
Online entry (£17 for adults, £12 for under 16s) closes on May 13. A 600 rider limit is in place, with nearly 500 entries already confirmed.
