Cadel Evans, twice winner of the mountain bike World Cup for Volvo Cannondale has been doing a lot of road riding for Cannondale Saeco this season and now he’s signed a two year contract with monster road squad Mapei – Quickstep.

Evans won the ’98 and ’99 mountainbike cross-country World Cups and had several podium finishes this year as well as fourth at the World champs. However, his real successes came on the road, with wins in the Tour of Austria, the Italian Brixia Tour and Travers de Lausanne in Switzerland where he won both mountain time trials.

Miguel Martinez was also rumoured to be looking for a tarmac ride, but there’s no news as yet.
