The three ‘stage’ Sea Otter Classic XC season opener has also shown two Britsh riders with stunning early season form.
Caroline Alexander took second place in all three time trial, short course and long course races to take the overall classification win scant seconds ahead of her team mate Barbara Blatter. Despite crashing and breaking her collarbone here last year she rode a tactically and physically very strong set of races, with the two riders dominating each event, with only Alison Dunlap testing their mettle.
Meanwhile British youngster Liam Killeen took a storming seventh place in the short course race finishing 39.5 seconds down on winner Filip Meirhaeghe, but under a second behind Rune Hoydahl and 3 seconds ahead of Bas Van Dooren.
So after all the griping of previous years looks like we’ve got some real British contenders in XC and DH this season.
