Keith Bontrager in action earlier this year
July may seem a long way off yet, but that hasn’t stopped the solo category of the Bontrager Twentyfour 12 at Newnham Park on 25/26 July from selling out already.
The entire event is nearly 70% full, with the solo 12-hour approaching fullness as well, so don’t delay in entering if you want to ride in those. Organisers expect to receive 1,300 entries.
Entries for the solo 24-hour category makes for interesting reading, and sign that it’s going to be a close fought battle. Current South Downs Way record holder Mike Cotty will be joined by Craig Bowles, Iain Payne, Ian Leitch, James Leavesley, Matt Page, Anthony White and Dave Buchanan.
Plans for the course include a little lengthening, the addition of another section of singletrack to keep things fresh and a new section with a split option to keep things interesting.
In other news Exposure Lights are continuing their support of the event and will again be staging the King and Queen of the Night in addition to providing 24-hour light charging support for any brand of lights. Clif Bar will be supporting activities to further improve the green efforts started in 2008, and the Bikeshed will be on hand to provide 24-hour mechanical support and For Goodness Shakes are supporting 24-hour sports massage.
The 24-hour DJs are booked and we expect another random showing of our Midnight Jazz singer somewhere in the woods….and a few more surprises along the way. With the support of Newnham Park the camp site will be open from Thursday July 23 until Monday July 27 so you can even make a little holiday of it in Sunny Devon.
