There’s just nine days to go until the Benromach 10 at Kirroughtree on 11 July 2009, and is the second event in the Benromach Three Tens Series of endurance cross country mountain bike events.
Organisers No Fuss Events have reported a 25% increase in entries for this year’s event, and there is still time to enter if you’re interested. 450 riders who have already signed up.
No Fuss Event tell us that the course will be around 10 miles and will feature just over 600 metres of climbing. The trail uses most of the Kirroughtree red route, with some new natural sections thrown in – so expect lots of fast flowing singletrack, water crossings, technical climbs and smooth rolling descents broken up by rock gardens and drop-offs.
The Benromach Three Tens Series is run on an endurance format with participants riding solo or in relay teams of two, three or four to see who can complete the most laps of a 10 mile course in a gruelling 10 hours. The events are not just an out and out race but are meant to be an inclusive and fun challenge for riders of all ages and skill levels. They give all riders over the age of 16, from recreational and elite to off road riders and weekend warriors, an opportunity to get on their bikes, ride great courses with loads of like minded people and have a good time in a fun and relaxed environment.
In an effort to support suppliers and resources No Fuss hope to maximize the event’s local economic impact while at the same time decreasing its carbon footprint by bringing in Events First Aid and Rescue from Newton Stewart to run the event. By 2011 it is expected that No Fuss will have relinquished full control of this prestigious event to Events First Aid and Rescue.
By utilising local suppliers and resources No Fuss hope to maximize the event’s local economic impact while at the same time decreasing its carbon footprint. Frazer Coupland from No Fuss Events says: “It makes sense for the guys at Events First Aid and Rescue who are based down here to put the work in on the ground. They have got to know the way we work over the last couple of years and we are confident they will do a great job. Who knows in 2010 I may get to enter this event; I would love that.”
There will also be entertainment and music from local band H20 laid on throughout the day in order to keep spectators and riders entertained at all times. The après race party will start after the prize giving, going on late into Saturday Night for those who still have the energy. Prizes will be awarded in the many different race categories and Benromach will not only provide spot prizes throughout the day but will also off the opportunity for participants to sample Benromach Traditional Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky!
