For the third year Beds Fat Trax and Beds Road CC put together a fast,
challenging course in Rowney Warren woods in Bedfordshire, and over 60
riders battled it out on a Friday evening for the £190 prize list.
The Senior category was led from start to finish by 18 year old James
Flanagan from local Team Keyne who showed Martin Smith from the Army Cycling
Union a clean pair of wheels. Martin tried all race long to fend off Mike
Cowland (OTH/Ben Haywards), eventually getting the better of him in the last
section of single track and holding a few seconds advantage to the finish.
Keeping it in the family, younger brother Stuart Flanagan (Team Keyne) won
the Junior race by nearly 5 minutes. The hotly contested Veteran category
was led home by Ron Rutgers (Addidas Cycling), ahead of Bob Mitchell and
last years Veteran winner Vic Barnett.
A good turnout of youth riders gave William Smyth (CATS MBC) a well deserved
win, which he enjoyed so much that he did an extra 2 laps. Beds Fat Trax own
Peter Hartley rode exceptionally well to take second place in his first race
of the year.
The ladies race was won by Amanda Foxon-Hill.
