Beastway, the popular London series of MTB races, has been relocated to Hainault Forest Country Park for 2007. This is due to the previous Eastway circuit being set aside for the 2012 London Olympics.
Beastway’s Ray Blackwell commented on the change: “Apart from the new venue, very little has changed from the previous format – start times and entry fees are all the same as before. While we don’t expect the series to be quite as busy as the amazing number of riders we got last year – the new venue has challenging woodland trails and singletrack to offer some exciting racing.”
“Brixton Cycles, who have been the main sponsor of the Series since it began in 1994, have again agreed to back the main prize list. We are especially grateful to Redbridge Borough Council for their support in providing the Country Park for these events.”
The first event will be on Wednesday May 16th, and will continue every Wednesday until July 25th. The final race will be a Team Race and Series prize presentation. Entry fees are as follows: £5 for U16s, £7 for Juniors, students, unemployed and senior citizens, and £10 for everyone else. Entries are on-the-day only, with no pre-entry. Full details can be found on the Beastway website.
Beastway has been made very welcome at Hainault Forest Country Park and we will offer top racing as ever. The course will feature woodland, grassland and hills, and you can rest assured that the Beastway team will be working to make the courses interesting and exciting to ride.
Access to the venue
Hainault Forest Country Park is 7 or 8 miles further out of town than Eastway used to be. Either turn off the A12 and on to the A1112 Romford Road (signpost to the Park), or come through Barkingside and along Forest Road to Romford Road and turn left.
People driving to the Park should note that there will be a £2 pay and display charge in the car park. Cycles are not allowed on the tube network during peak hours (7.30-9.30am and 16.00-19.00), however, after the race has finished you can use the tube from Fairlop back as far as Leyton if you need to.
Transport for London have a Journey Planner which despite restrictions on bikes, gives tube, bus and train information.
