We’re fairly used to hearing stories of famous people and sports stars (F1 driver Mark Webber springs to mind) injuring themselves through cycling, but this story of an astronaut being grounded after falling off his bike took us by surprise.
The Guardian reports that Tim Kopra has been sidelined for a mission into space next month, which would have included Kopra being the lead spacewalker, after an accident on a bicycle ride put him out of the mission.
The US space agency said it was replacing Kopra for its next shuttle mission after he was injured in a cycling accident over the weekend.
Nasa did not release details of Kopra’s injury, citing medical privacy. However, it was revealed that the accident occurred near his home and did not involve any other vehicles.
