While most of BIKEmagic were slogging their way round the Red Bull, I managed to skip off down to north Devon where we were media partners for the Gold Coast Ocean Fest. Midst the manic activity Martin Ashton was busy smashing the world bunny hop record and there was plenty of four-cross action on the MBUK downhill course.
If you haven’t heard about it already, the Gold Coast festival is a celebration of coastal living, so there was loads of other stuff going on as well like pro surfing, parakarting, skate demos and a Supa Ironman competition over several local beaches focused around the surf mecca of Croyde. Now in it’s third year, it’s well-organised and established as a key diary date for the area and is definitely one to take the kids to. It’ll be on around the same time again next year and if you want to find out more about it go to the website. Ashton managed to break his own bunny hop record of 42″ several times over the course of the weekend, on top of a whole load of fancy-pants stunts. We captured him here making it over 43″ and I think he ended up on 44″, it was pretty impressive anyway.

The downhill section was a bit short like most one-off event courses, but the team riders from Animal and MBUK managed to make the most of it.
