22-year-old trials rider Andrei Burton hopes to ride into the Guinness World Records this weekend when he’ll attempt to break the record for the most 180 degree jumps on a bicycle in one minute at the weekend.
The attempt, which will air on Guinness World Records ‘Smashed!’ television show on Sky1 this Sunday at 8pm, will be for the “Most 180 Degree Jumps (switches) on a Bicycle in One Minute”. The current record stands at 31.
Andrei is an accomplished trials rider, ending up 6th in the UCI world rankings in 2008. He’s also spearheading a bid to make trials an Olympic demonstration sport for the 2012 Olympics, and is currently a Cycling Ambassador for Devon Country Council.
“My record attempt on Sunday night will see me spinning my bike on the spot, changing direction, so facing the opposite way and replacing where the front wheel is with where the back wheel is,” says Andrei. “But I’m doing it between two tables off the floor, so there are two sharp edges to worry about.”
“This is an existing Guinness World Record that currently stands at 31 switches. On Sunday I will have one minute to do 32 or more, so I am going to have to go like the clappers to clinch the record. I’ve been honing my skill for about nine years now, but will need to use all my skill on the night.”
The new series will go out at 8pm on Sunday 24 May on Sky1.
