Nannerch in North Wales hosted the final round of the 2000
RAV4 Mountain Bike Series over the weekend of the 9th and 10th September.
In the Cross-Country races, it was re-assuring to see our four Olympic selections
claiming the top places, with Caroline Alexander and Oli Beckingsale signing off
their domestic seasons with victories, ahead of Louise Robinson and Nick Craig respectively.
There was consolation for runners-up Louise and Nick in that they both walked off
with their respective Series prizes. Louise had already wrapped up her victory at
the previous round, but Nick had to finish ahead of Barrie Clarke to be sure of picking
up the men’s title. He duly did this, finishing just over a minute clear of the Raleigh
man. Clarke’s season has been one of near misses, thanks to a wrist injury which
came at the worst possible moment, just when he looked favourite to qualify for an
Olympic place.
