Looking for a new challenge? Then how about the adidas Terrex Coast to Coast adventure race, an event that challenges competitors to run, paddle and mountain bike their way across the width of the country on 26-29 August 2011.
The route follows that defined by Alfred Wainwright and sets off from St Bees Head and finishing in the spectacular Robin Hoods bay.
In true adventure race style you may find yourself on mountain bikes, kayaking, open water swimming, running and navigating your team from one side of the country to another.
The event is for solos and mixed teams of three (with two competing at any one time) and is a self supported event so you will need a friend to help you out. Organisers will provide locations for you to camp overnight, these will be near small towns – so if your support crew is not up for cooking, local eateries should be near.
If that all sounds like your cup of tea, and we find ourselves strangely tempted, the good news is that entry opens on 1 December.
The entry fee includes electronic timing, all the maps required for the event, and a small tracker to enable your friends and sponsors to keep up to speed with the race online.
