Urs Huber wins Croc Trophy

Urs Huber proved to be the man to beat once again

Urs Huber won the final stage of the Croc Trophy to successfully defend his overall title.

The Swiss rider claimed the 38km time trial from Ayton to Cape Tribulation, giving him victory in the general classification by more than five minutes.

Former world and Olympic champion Bart Brentjens and Belgian Mike Mulkens finished second and third respectively – just as they did in 2009.

“Bart Brentjens was very strong. Doing a 10-day race with him is not easy, but I’m really happy to have won my second Croc Trophy,” said Huber, who will now turn his attention to becoming the first rider to win three successive titles.

“Last year I had two bad days, but this year I was strong for all the 10 days.

“In 10 days you can have a lot of problems with your bike, but this year I had no problems.”

Australia’s Abby McLennan blew away the women’s field to win the title by a record margin – finishing nearly eight hours clear of compatriot Lauretta Howarth, with Nancy Carceres third.
