Can you beleive it’s a year since the first women’s Swinley mountain bike ride? Well we can’t and we were extremely happy to see 44 women turn out for a fun day in Swinley Forest and the welcomed sunshine.
Elaine, aka Old Bird on the Forum, was as welcoming and wonderfully organised as always and by 11am we were all ready to head off on one of the three rides. We split the group into speed categories ranging from a fast paced ‘gnarly’ group to a social bunch and a somewhere in the middle ‘intermediate’ group too. We opted for that one, we wanted to do all the fast flowing singletrack, the corkscrew and some dropoffs, but also fancied frequent stops with time for plenty of chatting as well. We weren’t disappointed. Each group was lead by a local rider who’d spied out a good route for each group, and luckily for us, avoided most of the muddy trails too. A sweeper made sure we left nobody behind too, see I told you it was a sociable affair. Thanks go out to those guys and girls who did a great job keeping up all together and on track!
By 1pm we were ready for lunch and headed back to the Lookout for some lunch at the cafe. We tried not to take over the entire patio area and all the tables but with the fellas’ ride getting back as well it was hard not to be more than a couple of meters away from a SheCycles jersey.
Anyway have a look at some of the photos we took and they’ll be more on the way, hopefully some from Joolze Dymond, our resident snapper, who drove down from Bradford to join us.
