20-year-old Andreu Lacondeguy won the fourth Kona White Style on 30 January, with the Spanish rider pulling out all the stops to win on the unique snow-covered slopestyle course.
23 big name riders from around the world were invited to take part in this unique once-a-year event, including last year’s White Style winner Trond Hansen. Grant “Chopper” Fielder designed and built the bonkers course in Leogang, Austria.
“Man, I love those doubles,” said Lacondeguy. “Chopper made a great job! That’s the way they should be: big! I hope most of this year’s comps will go even bigger than last season. The progression has to go on. We ride mountain bikes, not BMX bikes. We need huge jumps at least 10 meters in distance!”
Britain’s Lance McDermott couldn’t overcome Lacondeguy but did win the ‘Sickest Trick Award’, performing a tuck no-hand front-flip at the last jump – the first time such a trick has been performed at an international mountain bike competition.
