We’re big fans of simple and effective products, and they don’t get much simpler or more effective than this one. Eschewing clever-clever names for straightforward things, Specialized have dubbed their warm hat the, er, Warm Hat. Fair enough, for it is undeniably both warm and a hat.
At the time of writing it’s December. And it’s quite cold. If, like your editor, you’ve got too tall for your hair you’ll probably be getting pretty chilly in the head department. That extravagantly-vented helmet that kept you cool in the summer is now just draughty. And inconvenient appendages like ears are sticking out into the low-temperature airflow and gradually turning numb.
The Warm Hat is the answer. It’s a super-simple skull-cap type affair in a thin, fleecy-backed material. Mostly thin, anyway – the front is slightly thicker for extra windproofing. But the whole thing is still thin enough to fit between your head and a helmet. And it’s long enough to cover your ears. It’s been fantastic on recent rides, keeping the editorial bonce suitably warmed. And if things get too hot, just take it off and stuff it in a pocket – it doesn’t take up much room.
Verdict
Mmmm, cosy hat. It’s just splendid. A tenner well spent.
