The Rapha Men’s Winter Jersey is a ruggedly luxurious jersey whose warmth will keep you riding through the winter.
What they say: A heavy-duty merino-blend jersey made for deep winter conditions. Designed for cold to freezing temperatures the Rapha Winter Jersey offers a great balance between insulation, windproofing and breathability.
What it is: Slip on the Rapha Winter Jersey and the high quality fabric will convince you that you get what you pay for. Made from a mixture of 69% polyester, 27% merino wool and 4% elastane, this is a thick, deluxe jersey that is as comfortable as it is warm. If you struggle with layering when the temperature drops, then the Winter Jersey could be the solution to your problems. Ride it through winter with just one thick thermal base layer underneath and let the insulated body and windproof panels do their job. There is a chance that on the very coldest of rides you might feel the chill on areas of the jersey where the wind-proofing is absent – so don’t go throwing your jackets out just yet.
And onto the technical details: a subtle, reflective strip on the arm offers increased visibility for nighttime riding, two long zipped vents on the front aid breathability when the temperature unexpectedly rises (and you’ll need them in this heavy jersey) and then there are the pockets. A small zipped ‘cards and change’ pocket is secreted in a rear seam and two open pockets sit beneath a large, zipped pouch. It’s a little different but with enough space to stow (or stuff, perhaps) a waterproof, gel bars, phone and a spare tube, the alternative layout works. But be warned, the Rapha Winter Jersey does fit on the large side.
Who it’s good for: The Rapha Winter Jersey is a thick, high-quality top layer that is a pleasure to wear thanks to its superb comfort and warmth. For riders who keep spinning throughout the colder months, the price is worth paying.
