Mace is a Canadian clothing brand, but one with perhaps not quite as high a profile as the Sombrios of this world. That’s certainly no hindrance to turning out a good product, though, and the Evac gloves are a fine offering.
They’re lightweight, full-finger gloves of the sort that we seem to use pretty much all year round unless it gets really hot or spectacularly cold. Unlike some gloves, the Evacs are almost entirely bereft of padding on the Clarino synthetic palm – there’s just a very thin gel pad on the heel of the hand. That won’t be to everyone’s taste, but we’re firm fans of having as little as possible between us and the bars, so it’s thin gloves for the win.
Elsewhere it’s all straightforward stuff – Velcro closure under the wrist, mesh back (with some mildly funky yet subtle graphics), soft wipey bit on the thumb, little grippy logos on the first two fingers. Nothing spectacular, but comfy and they’re holding up well. What’s not to like?
Ups and downs
Positives: Simple, no gimmicks, look good
Negatives: Nothing really
Verdict
Straightforward, unpretentious mitts that get the job done.
