The Dawn Patrol is a new jacket for this year from Fox and from first impressions has the standard Fox features of a great cut, a pretty bombproof feel and decent looks.
Compared to some jackets it may seem to be pretty basic; it’s not made out of any wonder materialsand has no real special features to mention. This is no bad thing really, especially when you consider the price.
It is also worth thinking about the uses of the jacket. Do you really want to pay more than double this for a jacket that you are more than likely going to crash in, get covered in abrasive mud and then stick it through the washing machine, rendering the fancy waterproof membrane not quite as good as you would like it to be? Just because something is cheaper does not mean it is not for purpose
On the bike the jacket feels great, the fit is good, the sleeves are a decent length and you are not left with an excess of jacket hanging down like some kind of a weird gut.
Though the jacket was not made out of a particularly wicking material, it was well vented enough never to feel too hot. It also did a great job of keeping the wind off and the rain out and seemed to keep on doing this even after several washes.
In terms of durability, the jacket seems to be as bomber as the first impressions suggested; not only that but it has maintained its appearance and still looks as good as new.
Verdict
If you are after a jacket with understated good looks, excellent durability that manages to keep the worst of the elements out time after time whilst still coming in at a reasonable price, with a little added Fox moto kudos; this may well be the jacket for you.
