I visited Pearl Izumi in Colorado recently, and found out a lot I didn’t realise about the US company before, including how good its range of gloves are.
There’s something in there for everyone, and these P.R.O. Softshell WXB 3X1 gloves are feature packed, crammed with tech and with enough insulation for the most bitterly days. And as a sufferer of ridiculously poor circulation in my hands, I’m always on the lookout for gloves that will keep the chill out -I reckon these could fit the bill.
They’re quite a glove, with an appearance akin to something you’d use on a skiing trip. Described as their ‘warmest glove ever’ they utilise a completely waterproof P.R.O. Barrier WxB material with Outdry referring to a process that bonds the waterproof and breathable membrane directly to the soft shell of the glove. They’re lined with Primaloft insulation which is supremely soft next to the skin.
On the outside a Pittards WR100X Natural Carbon Leather palm improves grip on the bars, silicone finger tips improve control of the brake levers and a low profile Velcro closure and reflective tabs wrap up the impressive raft of details.
It doesn’t stop there. A separate, optional, liner glove made from P.R.O. Thermal Lite fabric with Clarino synthetic leather in high wear areas provides an extra layer of insulation against sub zero temperature days.
The ultimate winter glove? Possibly, they’re certainly the most expensive cycling glove (£84.99 since you asked) I’ve ever seen . I find out if you get what you pay for as I put them to the test over the coming month, when we should get some nice cold weather.
