“The Mamasita’s primary goal is efficiency,” says Salsa, and has been achieved by switching from the previous scandium and carbon tubeset to a lighter EV6 Xtrolite aluminum tubing.
Salsa found it easier to manipulate the aluminium tubes, which has allowed for much more tube shaping and profiling to increase stiffness where desired while keeping the weight low. It’s allowed for the addition of a tapered head tube and PressFit 30 bottom bracket, adding stiffness without any weight penalty.
“While adding those features improved frame tracking, power transfer, and efficiency, we wanted to retain the ride quality heritage of the Mamasita,” adds the company. So a 27.2mm seatpost slides into a seat tube that is narrow in diameter until it reaches the bottom bracket where it flares.
Other nice details on the updated frame include custom rear dropouts, a forged Wright-style design with an integrated brake mount. The frame is designed around a 100mm fork.
