Intense Carbine is company’s first carbon bike

Intense Cycles has just revealed its first ever carbon fibre frame, the new Carbine.

The all-mountain frameset uses the company’s VPP suspension system and packs 150mm of travel, adjustable down to 140mm. The company are excited about the new launch, with Steber saying “We combined the best of the best. American design with German engineering.”

As carbon fibre is a material Intense Cycles haven’t before dabbled in, they sought the expertise of German-based SEED Engineering, to help realise their vision with first class carbon fibre processing skills and knowledge.

Based on the Tracer VP, the Carbine is pitched as an all-around trail bike. Modern features include a tapered head tube, BB92 bottom bracket, replaceable G1 drop out system rear axle, an FLK-GRD downtube and chainstay protection system, direct mount front derailleur and dropper post cable routing. The VPP linkages use angular contact bearing all-round with a collet axle system.

Frame weight, with a Fox RP23 shock, is a claimed 5.5lbs. Three sizes will be available, and the numbers for a medium with a 150mm fork fitted read as 68° head angle, 73° actual seat angle, 13.25in bottom bracket and 16.75in chainstays. Lop a degree of those numbers with a 160mm fork in place.
