A while ago I was fortunate enough to attend the GT Bikes product launch in the very lovely Les Deux Alpes, and one of the highlights of all the bikes we rode was the GT Distortion.
Unfortunately however, there were then no plans then to bring the 112mm full suspension bike to the UK, but that has now changed. While at the Cycling Sports Group (the company that looks after GT, Mongoose, Cannondale and Charge) show in Poole last week, brand manager Mike Cotty revealed that there had been a change of opinion, and the Distortion will come to these shores.
Which is great news. The Distortion may only offers a mere 112mm of travel from the Independent Drive suspension, but it’s wrapped up in a super tough frame that, along with a slack 67 degree head angle and 140mm Fox F32 fork and low stance, is huge fun to ride.
Trying to categorise this type of bike is tricky, it probably most likely falls into the ‘slopestyle’ pigeonhole, but doing that would put a lot of potential owners off. Look at it as an ideal UK playback equally at home ripping up downhill run after downhill run, with a decent pedaling ability to hike you back up the hill, or a XC bike for someone who puts the emphasis on thrills rather than speed.
