At the Dalby World Cup earlier this year we spotted a Charge 29er prototype being tested, wel now the company has revealed a two-model range for 2012.
We popped down to Charge distributor Cycling Sports Group in a rain-soaked Pooled to take a look at the new bikes. Charge has pitched its 29ers at the first time mountain biker or somebody looking to add a 29er hardtail to their stable without breaking the bank, with both bikes priced at under a grand.
The range starts with the £799.99 Cooker Mid and rises to £999.99 for the Cooker Hi. Both use a seamless welded Tange Infinity double-butted steel frame with geometry designed around a 100mm fork.
The Mid is specced with a Suntour XCR-Lo fork, Shimano Alivio 9-speed groupset, Tektro Draco Pro disc brakes, Formula hubs and Charge finishing kit. For another £200 the Hi gets a RockShox XC-28 fork, SRAM X5 drivetrain, Avid Elixir 1 brakes and Charge Spoon saddle and Shield handlebar.
They look good in the flesh, with sharp paintjobs and the usual high standard of finishing and attention to detail. We’ll look to get one in for testing real soon.
