This is Charge’s latest creation, a 29er called the Cooker. It was only a matter of time before the smaller guys like Charge responded to the rising popularity of 29ers, and as with most products from the Somerset-based company it looks good.
The frame is built with a collection of double butted Tange Infinity titanium tubes, neatly welded together with lovely little dropouts, a reinforcing gusset at the downtube/headtube junction and cables routed underneath the top tube.
This sample, spotted at the Dalby UCI World Cup last weekend parked up by the Charge stand, was wearing a lightweight and bling SRAM XX groupset and CrankBrothers Cobalt 29er wheels, with Maxxis rubber.
And it looks good. It’s nicely finished, usual understated decals, nice details around the frame and attention to detail. More news on its availability and pricing soon.
The company says: “For 2012 we will be releasing a number of 29’er bikes. We have had a great fun developing these bikes and it has really opened our eyes to the advantages of 29″ wheels. Neil will be racing on one this year and is hoping to get a Ti version very soon.”
