Last week we brought you the news that Niner had patented the first 29er specific suspension platform and now we can follow up with a look at the first bike in the company’s range that will make use of the Constantly Varying Arc Suspension Technology.
As we reported, “CVA is designed specifically with 29ers in mind, with the system’s advantages including efficiency across all gears,” which Niner say is particularly important with the growing popularity of 2×10 systems.
The Jet 9 RDO is the first bike in the range to demonstrate the new CVA suspension. And boy have they pulled out all the stops to ensure it’s a head turner. Granted all Niner books get the neck muscles twitching, but this is something else.
The Jet 9 RDO has a carbon fibre frame with a dramatically swooping top tube that arcs all the way down to the bottom bracket, providing a junction for the rocker linkage to be mounted. The vertically orientated shock offers 100mm of suspension and the chainstays are kept as short as possible for optimum handling.
Niner claims the benefits of CVA come into their own on climbs with good pedalling efficiency and small bump performance with very little chain growth in the system. The short linkages connecting the swingarm to the main frame are custom forged and run on Enduro sealed cartridge bearings.
