Shimano have been listening to consumer feedback to introduce new improved top line chains.

The new 7701, HG93 and HG 73 9 speed chains have been re-designed to use a reshaped link pin. The new pin is increased in strength from 200kgf to 300kgf and re-shaped to hold the outer chain links more securely The same design has also been applied to a new lower end HG53 chain.

As well as greater structural strength, the new chains feature a corrosion inhibiting surface treatment (possibly the same flourine based coating as their new clipless pedal plates but they wouldn’t tell us). Prices now run from £27.95 (CN7701) to £13.95 (CNHG53).
