SDG Hansolo lock-on grips – review

SDG Hansolo lock-on grips £23.99

ODI has become the dominant brand in the aftermarket grip market, with their lock-on designs offering simplicity and decent performance and a nice raft of grip designs. Slipping grips were banished to the history books once and for all.

These are the latest from SDG, the iconic saddle manufacturer. Wanting to add a grip to their range, they took the smart step in collaborating with ODI to produce their own signature grip.

The grips feature the familiar ODI lock-on collars that clamp into place with small 3mm Allen key bolts. ODI branded end cap plugs into the end of the bar, keeping things visually tidy and preventing damage to the bar in a crash. It would have been nice to see some SDG end caps.

For the grip itself, SDG’s logo, a saddle shaped icon encased in a circle, is repeated across the top. Meanwhile, the logo sans circle is used on the underside and is angled just a little bit, creating multiple ramped ridges that really give great grip.

The rubber compound is a little squidgy and combines with the pattern to give a grippy grip with or without gloves. They offer a good amount of padding too, removing some of the trail buzz.

Chuck in some unseasonably wet conditions of late and the pattern proves itself when it gets sloppy, managing to offer bite where other grips just throw in the towel. We’ve used them on aluminium and carbon handlebars with no problems.

I like my grips thin, and these are right on the money. Throw in ODI’s proven durability and they’re a cracking pair of grips, making them a good investment. I’ve cursed cheap grips on test bikes in the past, with ODI you know exactly what you’re getting. Which is why I fit them to most test bikes.

They come in four colours so you can match them with your saddle.

Verdict

There’s no shortage of grips out there, but these are amongst the best. Ideal even for non SDG fans.
