Technology, Specification and Highlights

Pace remain Europe’s only manufacturer of super high quality hand-built mountain bike suspension forks. And although there are many good suspension forks available on the World market today, there are also many bland mass produced products sharing the same design, technology and materials. At Pace innovation and technology are blended with the company’s tradition of progressive thinking to produce a state-of-the-art design with true soul and character. Materials which provide high function and performance characteristics are chosen whilst mass production techniques and materials are avoided.

The Pace RC36 PC2 features a unique cable operated lock-out system, high performance damper and spring stack, housed in a highly rigid and durable chassis and draws from the technology proven in its highly successful predecessors.

ProClass levels of performance are provided by an enhanced single stack of five silicone-chrome steel coil springs. This system combines initial compliance for maximum grip and steering control with excellent transition and progression. Improved design resists heavy bottom out and excessive dive. Controlling the ProClass spring system is our well-proven Open Chamber oil-damper (high oil capacity for consistent fade-free damping). The whole system is externally adjustable for spring pre-load and rebound damping whilst the compression circuit can be hydraulically locked-out via the highest quality braided cable, forged lever body and CNC machined lever. The Lock-out system, lifted from our highly successful Air Force model, is not only the most ergonomically convenient lock-out design available but is proven to be both highly efficient and durable.

The lightweight chassis of the PC2 has many performance features. For example our own new 7075T6 steerer, which can be depended on for its strength, is permanently pressed into the Monobox hollow section crown, itself reprogrammed and beautifully CNC machined to provide enhanced stiffness characteristics- the ultimate in form and function. Pace’s hallmark high strength steel stanchions and carbon fibre slider tubes feature in the PC2, the sliders’ construction being designed to provide high axial stiffness.

The PC2’s modular V-brake system is totally unique. A CNC machined arm integrates into the forks twin magnesium bridges providing a stiff and highly functional design- yet these can be unbolted in minutes for a sleeker appearance when running disc-brakes. V-brake mounts can be fitted to the front of the fork, or for improved modulation and cable line to the rear. The fork can also be ordered disc-brake ready at a reduced cost.

With its Greaseport system for quick and efficient lubrication of the forks internal bearings we think the new low maintenance/high performance Lock-Out Equipped RC36ProClass2 is one of the company’s best yet.

Damping System: Open Chamber oil damper. 96cc capacity. Separate rebound/compression circuits. All aluminium

Compression: Low velocity piston speeds controlled through a conical control valve. High velocity control through 20mm Piston reed valve (also provides compression bypass)

Rebound: Rotary control valve for precise setting. Auto-release control valve ensures separation of rebound and compression circuits. Piston reed valve.

Lock-Out System:
All aluminium/brass construction, integrated into damper. Braided control cable, forged lever body, cnc
machined lever incorporating cable and lever adjusters plus non-slip lever grips.

Spring system:
Coil-spring stack. Initial spring backed against negative-spring for high sensitivity. Twin main spring (different rates) for subtle transition and progression through to bottom out control. Harder rated mainsprings available. Supplementary spring ensures overall spring curve changes (and is therefore dedicated to different travels) when removed in 80mm travel version. All five springs silicone chrome steel. Fully guided and supported for smooth, quiet operation and increased life.

Bearings: PTFE faced aluminium for low static friction and good initial response. Absolute minimum running clearance
between bearings and shaft extend bearing life and reduce flex between fork upper and lower assemblies.

Seals: Pace’s own Twin wiper design for maximum performance in poor conditions. Design also reduces breakaway
stiction. Quality low friction quad and o-rings (Serviceable throughout).

Stanchions: 28.6mm Micro-crack plated chrome ground steel for lowest friction/high strength characteristics.

Slider chassis: High strength/stiffness unidirectional carbon-fibre lay-up provides high axial/hoop strength. Using aircraft grade epoxy, tubes are bonded to high purity magnesium dropouts. ISO std disc-ready. High purity twin magnesium bridges. CNC machined seal-hsgs.

Greaseport: Low maintenance design. Lubricant can be injected directly onto bearing surfaces through grease nipples.

Steerer: 7075T6 material ensures maximum strength. Extremely resistant to fatigue and impact load. Lightweight and
StIf. 28.6mm dia (25.4mm to special order).

Crown: Monobox hollow design. Very light and stiff. Fully CNC machined. Totally cool.
