Marzocchi 888 RC3 Evo WC forks earlier this week, the first of a revitalised 2010 range, comes the release of the 44 RC3 Ti and 44 Micro Ti forks.
The pair of 140mm travel forks see Marzocchi going back to the principles that made the original Bomber a revolution when it was introduced all those years ago, with every single part of the fork having been redesigned with a focus on optimising weight savings while not compromising strength.
The resulting Marzocchi 44 RC3 Ti is the flagship coil sprung fork in the range and borrows damping technology from the 888 downhill fork. This is the fork the company describes as the ‘spiritual successor to the original classic [and orange] Z1 Bomber.’ There’s 140mm of travel and you get adjustable rebound and high and low speed compression damping, with a low pressure air valve for small pre-load adjustments. As the name suggests there’s a titanium spring which helps keep the weight to 1850g (4.07lbs).
Using an open bath air design the 44 Micro Ti does away with a sealed cartridge and uses the stanchion as the air chamber, reducing air pressure while a titanium negative spring helps with small bump responsiveness. There’s adjustable compression and rebound damping with lock-out and a variable air system which raises or lowers the oil level to alter the spring curve, a feature borrowed from the 888. Travel is also internally adjustable from 100, 120 or 140mm using spacers supplied with the fork. Weight is 1799g (3.96lbs) with a QR15 axle.
Prices are £679.95 for the 44 RC3 Ti QR 15, £569.95 for the 44 Micro Ti QR15 and £569.95 for the 44Micro Ti (QR). Available September 2009.
