Control Tech go titanium in 2012

Contol Tech is one of those brand names that have been around in mountain biking for about us long as our memories allow us to remember, specialising in beautifully machined aluminium and carbon fibre components.

The company actually released its first alloy bar end in 1989 and expanded the line-up to cover most of components from handlebars to seat posts and more. There were financial difficulties for the company during the earlier 2000s results in a relaunched more recently in 2005, with new products coming along afterwards.

With a sneak peak at its new 2012 products today, the company’s fortunes are rising. Oddly, Control Tech never dabbled in titanium before, but that irregularity has been righted with the addition of this lovely handlebars, seatpost and stem crafted from the once exotic material.

The flat handlebar, described as the “rigidest titanium flat handle bar ever” uses a tube of double butted titanium with a 5 degree backsweep and 31.8mm centre bulge, and comes out of the box at 660mm wide. It weighs 195g when cut down to 600mm.

The stem is made from 6Al/4V titanium and weighs just 138g for a  120mm length models, the longest available but lengths go down to 90mm. Titanium bolts reduce weight further and the stack height is 40mm.

Made from 3AL/2.5V titanium, the “Special Titanium Slop Shape” seatpost uses a a carbon fibre lower saddle rail cradle in unison with tough yet light 6AL/4V titanium bolts. 350mm and 400mm lengths are available and 27.2mm or 31.6mm diameters. Weight for a 27.2mm 350mm post is just 190g.

A range of titanium spacers, with the lightest weighing a measly 2.3g, are also available.
