Continental have expanded their 2011 tyre range with the addition of the X-King (pronounced ‘cross king’), a tyre which sits between the Race and Mountain King and was developed with the Topeak Ergon mountain bike professional team
Despite its massive 2.4in carcass, the all-new tread pattern, a departure from previous Conti tyre designs, is designed to be fast rolling for marathon racing or all-day epics where a low rolling resistance tyre is a priority.
Five versions of the X-King will be available, including the ProTection (630g), RaceSport (560g), UST (840g), folding (640g) or wire bead (700g.)
The Mountain King has been redesigned. It’s only available in 2.4in, with a new tread pattern that does away with the previous Endless Edge design with a new knob layout that is claimed to give better braking performanc.e Closely-packed ramped side lugs give good cornering grip while there’s plenty of mud clearing space between the central knobs.
The Mountain King is available in ProTection (650g), UST (880g), folding (680g) or wired bead (740g.)
