K-Edge started out making chain catchers for road bikes. A simple bent piece of metal that clamps to the front mech and prevents the chain falling off, it was used by US athlete Kristin Armstrong when she won Gold at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Since that time the company has broadened their offering to include components for mountain bikes and cyclo-cross, as well as road. An unexpected departure from a company that started out by trying to prevent chains derailing is the development of GoPro mounts.
These beautifully CNC-machined 6061 aluminium mounts will attach a GoPro camera very securely to the handlebars, but can equally be used in more creative positions. Two handlebar mounts are offered, an inline design and a ‘boom’ mount that places the camera forward of the handlebars, and a saddle rail mount for filming the action unfolding behind you.
We’ve had a quick play with a GoPro on a ‘boom’ mount and been very impressed with how solidly it keeps the camera in place. The plastic mounts supplied with GoPro cameras are great for their ease of use but it’s very difficult, when fixing to the handlebars or seatpost, to get a very secure setup that doesn’t lead to the camera rattling over rough ground. The K-Edge solves this little problem.
For the serious GoPro enthusiast it’s a must-have upgrade. And now that Madison have been announced as the exclusive distributor for K-Edge in the UK, the mounts will be readily available through your local bike shop.
