Mavic Syncro 2012 helmet – first look

There was big news on the Mavic stand at Eurobike earlier this year, as the company traditionally known for its wheels and rims took another step to increasing its offering with a helmet line-up.

The heavily sculpted and styled helmet pictured here is the entry-level Syncro. It’s the most affordable of the three helmet range. Clearly Mavic have pushed for a highly ventilated designed and it is more road-orientated in its aesthetic, but the Syncro is supplied with a clip-on peak; the two more expensive helmets don’t come with a peak.

The three helmet range was three years in development, and involved 25,000 heads being measured to ensure the helmet would be the most comfortable available. Out of that research a retention system, Ergo Hold, with a huge six centimetres of adjustment was designed, more than any other out there.

This combines with a helmet shape that reduces pressure points on the head, and the dual-density X-Static antimicrobial technology padding further increases the level of comfort.

We’ll be testing the helmet over the coming weeks, so watch out for our full verdict. Mavic face some tough competiton from the established brands
