Show off an elite cycling brand and banish cold ‘tootsies’ for good with these versatile neoprene toecovers.
What they say: Keep you feet warm without the hassle of a full shoecover – the toecover can be worn alone or between shoe and shoecover.
What it is: Assembling the right attire for a ride when the weather is not one of those perfect warm and sunny riding days can be minefield. The risk of part of your anatomy falling victim to frostbite stands in direct opposition to that of overheating. Thankfully, there are plenty of workable, in between solutions – such as the delightfully-named Castelli Toe Thingy toecovers.
Constructed from a super-durable neoprene, the Toe Thingys can be easily slipped over almost any cycling shoe and are held in place by your shoe’s cleats. The fact that the cover only goes over the front of the shoe gives you the option of wearing it alone (where Castelli claims it will protect you in temperatures down to 10C), or wearing it with a full shoecover over the top, if the conditions become truly Arctic.
The toecovers feature a textured underside that is more durable than the waterproof and windproof neoprene on the top. This is designed to stop the inevitable fraying and damage to the opening at the bottom whilst clipping in and out of your pedals. Of course, this problem is unavoidable, but we found this feature prolonged the product’s life significantly.
The other plus point of the Toe Thingy is that it gives you an affordable way to show off one of cycling’s premium clothing brands in a prominent place. No one likes a show off, but we all like to show off.
Who it’s good for: Perfect for those cyclists who dare to leave the rollers gathering dust and take it outdoors in colder conditions. A great price and a handy (or toe-y) accessory.
