Swinley Forest was overflowing with women mountain bikers on Saturday 11th Feb, the locals didn’t know what hit them as 28 women met up thanks to Elaine, aka Old Bird, posting a thread on the SheCycles.com forum.
Elaine had hot chocolate and homemade cakes on offer to keep us warm before we headed out to explore the Swinley singletrack and across to Crowthorne Woods. Three speed groups set out from the Lookout carpark, mostly strangers from around the UK, all with a common interest and returned 2 hours later as though we’d been riding together for years.
How refreshing to get a bunch of riders together without egos or a point to proove, we rode the jump gully, tried our hand at railing berms and blasted along singletrack – what a pleasureable ride!
We’ll be arranging more SheCycles rides like this, around the UK so riders from the North, Scotland and Wales can come along too. If anyone wants to help arrange these then drop us a line with some suggested dates and hopefully Elaine can come along and have a rest next time! Thanks to Elaine from all of us!
Don’t forget to post your pics on the Gallery and in the meantime we’re looking forward to more adventures together soon.
