Adventure racers will line up at the start of the Rat Race on 15/16 July, ready to face an urban obstacle course around Edinburgh city centre. Teams of three will kayak, run, ride, abseil and even make use of a Spacehopper as they put their fitness, skills and navigation to the test.

The organisers make use of local landmarks in their course planning. Last year athletes were kayaking the Forth estuary, abseiling from the Murrayfield Stadium roof, going underground, free running and navigating through crowds of Sunday shoppers in the shopping centres.

There’s full television coverage, plus live bands will keep the crowds entertained whilst they watch the latest action on giant screens.

So, find yourself two mates and fill-in an application form. It costs £80 per person in the main adventure class, but £25 for the rookie class. Teams can be mixed or single sex.
