We have finally entered the last week before the Rhayader event will kick off. As we have a fair amount of new ‘never done a marathon before’ entries we thought it might be a good idea to mention a few details.
Entries
At the moment we have around 900 riders pre-entered which is a fair amount more than we had at this time last year. We are still taking entries at the moment but if you are going down the entry form and cheque route we might not be able to get the confirmation to you in time. Don’t worry if you don’t get a confirmation – we can sort everything out one site. If you are entering via the online entry please make sure that you enter for one person at a time rather than for your whole family in one hit, and please make sure that you read the instructions before you get into the ordering process. We will have entry on the day but that will be subject to a £2 surcharge per entry.
Timetable and location
The event is based on the rugby club in Rhayader which will be signposted from all directions from Friday lunchtime onwards. Just make your way to Rhayader and follow the marathon signs. Everything will be based at the rugby club: event village, parking, camp ground, start/finish and pasta party. The registration will be open on Saturday (27 May) from 12pm (noon) to 8pm and on Sunday from 7-9am. The start of the marathon (all categories and distances start together) will be at 10am on Sunday morning just in front of the rugby club.
Pedro’s Spin warm up rides, skills rides and coaching rides with CycleActive
The pre-marathon rides and coaching sessions were such a success at the last event that we’ve doubled the number of spaces available. All rides start at 12pm, 2:30pm and 5pm at the CycleActive Skills Arena and last for 1.5 to 2 hours. You can choose between The Pedro’s Spin, Get Started Skills and Ride Family Skills Sessions:
There are only limited spaces so please email [email protected] if you are interested in taking part, specifying which ride you want to sign up for. The later rides filled up quickly last time so we recommend that you email early or just arrive earlier so you can enjoy the first ride then relax in the afternoon.
Course
Clive Powell has finished the course and thankfully it is a true all weather course. You will still get muddy and wet but you should be able to ride pretty much all of it even if the weather doesn’t improve over the next few days. The course will as always have feeding stations alongside it which will have water, energy drinks, bananas and some energy food available. As an extra service for the 25km ‘Mini Marathon’ the instructors from CycleActive will be on course helping out, giving advice and simply looking after the riders, in particular those who are riding their first event.
Austria
They actually have nice weather at the moment, so if you are tired of the rain and fancy a new and different mountain bike marathon experience why don’t you have a good look at the Merida 100 ‘on holiday’ round in Bad Goisern, Austria. We have put an attractive package deal together which you can find on the Bad Goisern page on the mtb-marathon.co.uk website. Have a look and check it out. It is one of those rides you should have done in your marathon career.
Exposure Light Buffs
Our friends at Exposure Lights have told us about a great deal they are running on the Exposure Light Buffs which were handed out to the riders who completed the Exposure Lights Big Night Out night marathon at Builth Wells. They have a few of these sought-after items left and they are going for a very good price – pick one up for £8.99 or two for £15. The Exposure Light Buffs will be available from the registration in the event village.
Everybody on the newsletter list will get a last minute ‘update from the frontline’ with course condition and weather details towards the end of the week. If you have any questions about the upcoming event just email us to [email protected] or give John a call on 01982 552923.
